Things to do before you die !

October 12, 2006

Whilst sitting in a Finnish hotel room a couple of years ago in December I dropped down a list of stuff I wanted to do before I died. Inspired as I was by the Finnish weather (-20) and the colourful landscape. For some reason it seemed a good idea. I dug out the list and here it is.

1. Learn to program.
2. Learn to properly run and administer websites.
3. Parachute.
4. Run a sub three hour marathon.
5. Do a sub three and a half hour Snowdon.
5. Spend more time with my kids.

Well three years later how am I getting on ?

1. I am currently doing a Java course and this one will certainly be complete after next year.
2. Naaa not yet but I have a project to set up and run a site I start in about two weeks so this one will also be complete at the end of the year.
3. What made me think of that !!!!!!
4. I plan to do this at the next Cologne marathon in a years time. Watch this space.
5. I think that one will fall next year too :-)
6. Yep I took a 9 to 5 job.

So now I’m going to think up some more……

Nice new site, but I did like the last one more! where have the pics gone? Did you do this on a PC or something?

    some suggestions for your list:

    1. Compete in the Crocodile Trophy against my mate Christophe who hasnt trained as hard this year, to give you a chance (http://www.cyclingnews.com/mtb.php?id=mtb/2005/oct05/croctrophy05/croctrophy051).

    2. After doing (1) drop in for a barbie!

    3. Hop over to NZ for the Coast to Coast (http://www.coasttocoast.co.nz)

    4. Get back to UK and start training for your sub 3-hour Man v Horse, and in doing so beat my record!

    OK, thats 2007 sorted.

No panic I will get on to the pics at some stage and as soon as iWeb develops it’s blogging capabilities and/or Apple revamp iMac then the gloss will reapppear. It’s just that I need to blog on the fly a lot.
I will take a look at the croc links. It might give us an excuse to eventually get down under and sample your barbie.
I would definitely like the NZ thing.
Sorry but I think your MVH record will wobble next year. 3:10 I believe.
Thanks for the comments do you fancy contributing ?
    I could make you a user ?

    3:06:32 to be precise

I think I’d like to dip under 3 hours on that one too. I’m doing the first MVH half on Sunday so I should be able to gauge the course a bit. I’m running every day in my lunch break and long runs on a treadmill or ski m/c a couple of times a week. I’m wary not to impact my knees too much so I’m looking for alternatives.
    Cheers

Ergo’s and snowboarding are the only activities that dont hurt my knees, as running and weights have destroyed most of my cartilage. 5300m /20 min is my current best. Sliding down a black run on my backside is also what I do very well. Squash gave me tennis elbow, which has now developed into RSI after I use a mouse, so I might sue Apple for making me use that bloody mighty mouse thing. The cruel irony is that my squash was going great for 2 years, I broke my raquet so bought a fantastic new one, used it once and then got the RSI. 6 months of physio and now acupuncture I’m worried about holding a full wine glass, so I’m working on that as much as possible (we live near the Yarra Valley, a renowned wine region), may have to swap hands which could get messy.

What are the benefits of being a user? (do I get clean needles?) A free iPod nano perhaps?

We just watched brokeback mountain. mountain vistas followed by the sharing of body warmth in a tent was a little alarming, but kate thought it a “sensitive” film. Not as good as “Shaun of the Dead”, currently my top film ever, with the BBC’s “black books” coming a close second.

maybe I should get a blog.

can’t compete with that lot about running MVH or any kind of marathon, as at this age we have to concentrate on running our lives as best as poss
maybe we will come back to this life again after we have gone and set up a new record for you marathoners, but can associate with Asa about knees and other joints, unfortunaely our is deffinately age related, but I can still hold a glass of wine with ease, and am looking forward to wine tasting in the Yarra Valley

You didn’t mention that your mate Christophe met his Sheila on the way mate. Strewth that could get more dangerous than the crocs :-)

  8. Max Says:

I don’t have knee joint probs etc but that’s cos a) I’m really young, b) I do crap times at Marathons c) I wear a copper bracelet d) Jacuzzi e) Beer.
    f) poster of Monica Bellucci in my office.
